I want you to close your eyes and imagine. Depending on where you are in your career, imagine you’re at that point in your life where you are just starting out your career. You have the interview that will define your future.

I want you to picture yourself having an interview with the HR recruiter for a large multinational organization as a data scientist/developer. This will be a video conference call where they will ask you the basics on your background and tell you about the role. You have been preparing for this interview for weeks and now you’re ready to go.

It’s the big day, you log on to your laptop, login to your zoom meeting and there is your recruiter. Greeting you with a smile, open, and ready to learn everything about you. He introduces himself, tells you about the role and asks you the first question, “so…what’s your story?”

You proceed to answer and notice the recruiter smiling when pleased, raises his eyebrow when in question and a solid nod when confirming your feedback. This feels great. But, who are you really talking to you? A person or an AI?

A few months ago I had the opportunity to test out a new AI platform from synthesia (Link) that enables you to create life like AI driven avatars that can easily fool the untrained eye. In fact I did a video where all the characters in there are in fact AI driven avatars that are so life like, that majority of people who I showed at first, couldn’t tell whether the opening actor was real or AI driven.

To further interact with synthesia, I decided to pick some of the top questions on reddit on what users question on Elon Musk and Tesla. So I fed those questions to the all powerful GPT3 for feedback and compared it to a reddit based AI model that I trained. Feedback is awesome and the AI avatars tell the complete story. Synthesia is an amazing platform that enables you to write scripts and have AI driven avatars read them in a life like manner. Check out their platform, its awesome.

Today, tools like synthesia will read off of a pre-determined script however when you combine it with powerful frameworks like GPT3, it opens a whole new world which blur the lines between virtual and reality. Going back to our example on the job interview, a candidates responses can easily be processes and answered by GPT3 which then feeds the dialogue for a character to read out in real time. The exciting yet scary part is this capability already exists and we will more AI driven platform as such over the next few years.

What do you think about tools like synthesia and gpt3? We’re you able to tell the difference between the first AI avatar?
